Video game giant Nintendo has filed a patent for a development process focusing on the crafting of in-game clothing for their characters. While this patent seemingly has ties to their latest game, Splatoon 3, this in-game clothing patent is speculated to be applied to various upcoming games.

This process, known as deformation, describes the way in-game clothing stops from passing through the character’s 3D model as is common in most games with detailed clothing physics. The deformation process ensures clothing behaves realistically, making folds and brushing against the character’s skin instead of phasing through intangibly.

Nintendo’s patent aims to make the development of in-game clothing easier and more fluid, while also demonstrating the capabilities of the Switch hardware.
